I’m a father and a son

Ok, so I was watching this movie the other day and it was a movie I hadn’t really heard of. As this story played out, there was a point in the movie that was set up to be a big warm fuzzy moment between a father and his son. As that moment came, the dad let the warm fuzzy moment go and it did not happen. To me, that was a huge let down and that hit me pretty hard.

As a son and also a father, I am going to take this opportunity to say the things this dad didn’t say. I don’t blame him for not doing it in the movie because I myself don’t always find it easy to tell my kids how much I love them and how proud I am to be their father. I’d also like to have the moment with my dad being a son. Here it goes:

TO MY DAUGHTERS: I love you more then you will ever know. When you have children of your own, you’ll get it. There are going to be times that I am dissappointed or I don’t approve of whats going on but no matter what, I LOVE YOU. I am proud of you. I am proud of all the things you have done right and all the ways you’ve grown from the things that go wrong. I will always be here for you, good or bad. You are my daughter and even when it doesn’t feel like it, I understand and I have your back! I will always be your biggest advocate.

TO MY DAD: I know there have been times when I have let you down. I know there have been things I’ve done that you didn’t agree with or understand. I just want you to know that you and mom have been amazing parents. When I was letting you down or going against the grain, you did not shut me out. I am proud to tell people about my parents and I try very hard to do things that make you proud of me. I LOVE YOU no matter what!
